Today my son called and told me about what they did for last Christmas- he was in county jail then- he said every guy on his cell block took off one sock and tied it to the bars of their cells waiting for "Santa" on Christmas Eve.
The visual in my head of those grown men all with one sock off made me laugh. It was funny and kind of sad too- but it still did make me laugh.

December 23, 2014 You can relive one moment in your own past. What is it and would you let it play out the same way or not?

My wedding day. I would RUN LIKE THE WIND out the back door! -I actually did try to sneak away, but ran directly into the pastor who was marrying us... I should have told him to forget it and leave anyway.

The premise here is that we have the knowledge of what will come? If so then I would change one thing. I would not have signed up for the Army. But would I be who I am now if I hadn't? I don't know but I wouldn't be in constant pain I do know that. Would my daughter have been born, would I have studied philosophy as well as art? Would I have gained and lost every job I have known on a 2 year cycle almost like clock work I don't know. Some of my life and personality are tied to that moment I cannot think what it would be like without it.

I, like you...think too much. :) I cannot answer the question because to me it is extremely multi-faceted. If I had not done this, would that have happened...you know? lol

I thought of those thoughts too--- and not getting married would mean a lot of things would have changed, both in my life and who I am now...
I think that my life would have been better had I not gotten married. The decisions you make as a young "adult" (I was 18) are the ones that can create the most pain throughout your life...

When my twin and I were really young, I remember coloring pictures under the tree. It was snowing outside and Mom was making homemade fudge in the kitchen- testing the temperature of the chocolate and stirring- oh, I remember that day. It was full of the colorful lights on the tree. The fun hoping and stories of two kids under a tree at Christmas time, the smell of chocolate melting and the sounds of the Chipmunk Christmas record on the record player... It is my all time favorite memory. No one fighting, no one upset and just a hopeful heart beneath a tree. *The coloring book I had was Woody Woodpecker and Ben, my twin had Casper the Friendly Ghost coloring book. It amazes me at details I actually can remember- and I remember the smells associated with this moment in time too.. It's all a beautiful memory to me to hold onto for all of my life.

I was eight and had lost my half-sister to her father that year along with both my grandfather, and my great uncle to black lung. I had been taken to my great aunts for the funeral and had discovered a bit of my great uncles history he was really old when he finally died and his life had been filled with to me were amazing adventures, He had fought in world war two, he had been a railroad worker and had been a coal miner. He and my grandfather had grown up in the depression. And both had lied about their age to get into the army for WW2, ironically they had made themselves younger to get in. So they were very old when they died. My great uncle and my grandfather were the only ones in my life to treat me as an equal. I realise I was eight but talking about life and the meaning of it intelligently is my most prized memory of them. But looking through their old photos and record I discovered my love of trains, these huge mechanical marvels fascinate me. So I remember that christmas especially well I being the only child in the house I guess I received more than my fair share. The coolest gifts were a framed picture of my grandfather and great uncle together next to a train and a Lionel train set that did a fancy figure eight on a styrofoam landscape with little plastic trees and buildings. The smell of ozone from a bad transformer can still send a smile to my face after all these years.

It was required in college to take a public speaking course for my degree. So, I did. Thinking it would be really difficult, as I really do not like to speak in front of a lot of people, I learned that if I prepared well, I was good at it. I had no problems once I stood up to give my speeches. Earned an A in the class too.
