Would you rather have a best friend who knows everything about you and cannot not keep a secret or be unable to keep a secret yourself?

I don't keep secrets... I just don't think any good comes out of a secret. So, I guess it's best if my best friend didn't keep secrets either. lol

secrets vs confidential information

Secrets are often divisive to the community. Without all the accurate information, people might start to guess what really happened, and rumors and misinformation might circulate creating more divisions.


For me, keeping confidentiality is about upholding the well being of the people in the community. We don’t share a piece of information because we care about the people involved.

I keep secrets, sometimes I have secrets that I know I should share because they would clear things up for people but I have to keep the confidence of the person who told me. Secrets are a bit of an issue sometimes. They can be for good reasons and they can be for bad reasons.

I agree , there is something very under hand about keeping secrets.

Sometimes we have to in order to protect people and their feelings. Its not like you ask people to tell you things, they just do.
Keeping confidences of friends is sometimes part of being their friend, if a person feels comfortable enough to share with you it wouldn't be a nice thing to blab to other people what they said. So I get it marti, don't worry, its not a bad thing.

I think there is a difference between a "secret" and "confidential information".

For instance, my home address is "confidential information" Other things such as your medical conditions, family information school/work history and personal history of abuse or neglect are confidential information and if someone shares those- then I do keep them private.

if I say some personal, and it usually has some negative or hurtful effect on others- things such as "I am having an affair, don't tell anyone"... that is a secret.

I hope that clears it up a little- I don't just blabber all of someone else's information- but if it's something that is potentially dangerous or harmful and you tell me it- I will try to get you to come clean about it and let you know that it isn't a secret I am comfortable keeping.

I never assumed that you would do so. there is a big difference between confidential information and people being say bitchy about other people behind their backs and trying to keep it all a secret ,that sucks .

I agree, completely. That would be called backstabbing in my books and that is never a good thing.
