Brainstorm session: Shew's story idea. LLani and Ysallnadre The Song of Fate and the Mother Tree
In the far away land and time of ancient elf there dwelled living stories, the telling of these stories made the things in them come to life. One such story is of the Song of Fate. A song so old and so beautiful as to effect the fates of men and beast. The song was everlasting and each verse was the past, present, and future of everything. It is said the Song was written down and placed in the ground under a oak sapling at the beginning of time and that, that sapling grew into the Mother Tree "Ysallnadre" in who's branches the fates of all are born and read. From the same roots the head waters of the worlds waters comes.

Journey's End
"Are we there yet?" came the familiar whine from Chloe, who was all of six years old. She was tired, very tired and couldn't stop the words from coming from her lips. She sighed and kept pace with her Papa, who never seemed to get cross with his young daughter's complaints. Rolland smiled to himself. It had indeed been a long walk. Much longer than he had anticipated. They had set out on this journey two years ago. It was an unexpected journey and he wished too, that they were there. He stopped and knelt down to look his daughter in her beautiful brown eyes, "Miss Chloe, do you want to ride up on Papa's shoulders for awhile? You deserve a break on those legs." With that, a sparkle lit her eyes once again and she began to jump up and down with a small joy that only the very young find in the simplest of pleasures.
Rolland bent down, hoisted his young daughter onto his shoulders, feeling her grip around his head, he tried to not laugh, as she always held on so ferociously. Adriana gave her husband a look of "Stop spoiling our girl!" but it was more playful than being actually menacing or out of anger. Adriana was glad for the short break in the walking. It was she that had the wagon, pulling it behind her. It was a small flat wagon, fashioned by her husband to carry their meager supplies. It wasn't heavy but the two adults pulled it in shifts, so as not to wear one another out unevenly.
Rolland's voice, in his quiet concerning way broke the short silence, "Soon, we will stop and eat. We still have some of the weasel jerky and chestnuts. Plus, Mama has a way with finding the right leaves and grasses to make a fresh salad, don't you Mama?" Adriana spoke up, "Yes, I do Papa, but from what I've been seein', not much in the way of tasty morsels on today's trail."
Always the optimist, Rolland replied, "We can keep walking a bit further then, see what's coming up the way." It is amazing, thought Adriana, that Rolland has been able to keep up his optimism with all that had befallen their family over the last two years.
The crash landing had nearly taken all of their lives. The automated run ship lost control of it's main thrusters while nearing a new planetary system they were to be part of a colony to settle there. Then they lost communications. All of the life support systems were taking up the back up power and then, oh then the navigation went out. With no way to send out a distress signal, they were moving in the one direction without a change in course and a gravitational pull from the blue and green planet nearing them, all they could do was prepare for a crash and hope for the best. It was far from the best, however. The couple had lost their 8 year old son, Collin. And Adriana had lost her unborn child as well.
But they couldn't dwell on that. They had to heal themselves with rest for a couple of weeks at the crash site. They had very few actual rations left when they headed out, hoping to find civilization or a fertile place to set down roots. So far, in all their journeys, they have yet to run into another sentient life form. There seemed to be animals they were used to seeing, although some of them were a little different, by color, by action, but most seemed to be tasty, at least those they managed to trap or hunt successfully. They decided to give the animals the names that were familiar to them, so they could talk or try to educate themselves on this alien world.
Days seemed longer than they were on Earth, perhaps by two hours. So that would mean the rotation of this planet is just slightly different than that of Earth's own rotation. There were two moons, one was much larger than the other- but sunset was beautiful. The light from the moons could shine brightly enough that night's total darkness was rare.
The family, with Rolland and Chloe in the lead, kept walking for a few more hours and then, they came through the end of this deep forest and all froze, stopped in their tracks. The vista before them was absolutely beautiful. The sounds of the waterfall in the distance begging them to come and be refreshed. There were structures! Buildings! A wooden bridge too, it is exactly what they were hoping for. The happy squeal of their daughter brought both parents back into reality. It had been so long, they thought for certain that there were no sentient beings on this planet. From their distance, however, they could not see any movement.
Rolland's voice was calmer than he felt, "So, finally, we find civilization! Mama, let's go meet the folks who live here, see if we are welcome." Adriana, always more cautious than her optimistic husband warned, "Now, let's keep our heads about us Papa. We need to see first, see what they are like before we go runnin' into their village like this." In a louder, more insistent voice, Chloe spoke up, "Mama, we are here! I wanna go to the city!" She squirmed around so much Rolland had to grasp up his daughter and set her back to the ground.
Rolland, always one to compromise, "Let's find a place and have our meal and talk things through. How's that sound Miss Chloe, Mama?" Pouting, Chloe crosses her arms over her little chest and speaks her mind, "Sounds like Mama is gonna win." Rolland laughed. Their daughter was indeed bright and never one to hold her tongue. Adriana speaks up, "Now Chloe, no one is a fightin', we are just goin' ta think things through. Let's eat like Papa said."
The three of them ate silently at first. All of them with their own thoughts and ideas about this new development. Rolland, as usual, broke the silence first, "It looks like a beautiful place to live. I can't imagine the people who made this village will be unkind to weary travelers." Adriana gave Rolland a look of dismay, "You basin' that on what information Papa? We've yet ta see hide nor hair of the fellows what built this village." Chloe, chiming in, "Papa, tell her it's ok. Tell her we can't be scared of..." the word was cut short. Rolland was taking a bite of his weasel jerky when it happened. Adriana's back was to Chloe but she turned quickly when she saw Rolland loose all color in his face.
What Adriana and Rolland saw was their daughter, in front of their eyes, was absorbed into a creature that looked humanoid but more ethereal. If they weren't watching this horror happen front of their eyes, they would never have believed this could happen. And as each one were about to scream and move toward their now gone daughter, both Rolland and Adriana were absorbed inside of two other beautiful, ethereal creatures.

incredible... and yet so unsatifying. The ending mysterious, is it good or evil the etherial being taking them? I want to believe it was good, i need it to be so.

Sometimes things don't turn out like we want them to. And is it evil? Is it survival? Does anyone know? ...Do they become one with the aliens in essence change and live vicariously through them, or is it, indeed THE END?
....those are some of the questions I want the reader to think about and ponder. There are more questions too that my mind picks up on too- perhaps, is this the native's welcome? As in open arms, hugging them into their lives... changing them? ...there are so many "what if's"... I will leave it up to the reader to take from it what they may.
The end. lol
