Finished Dragon Age: Inquisition yesterday at least the single player portion. The story you make for yourself is interesting and very engaging. The end though was and is a bit anticlimatic, for two reasons, the final battle was epic but I had harder ones getting there. And so much was left open for future games eluding to future problems created by playing the way I did in this one. Enemies left alive, decisions made, friends changed by the fight. There have been some interesting reviews of the game one that I actually laughed at because it's biggest complaint was that it was too big. Too involved, they did not like how every desicion in the game on who to support or who not to, determines how others treat you. They wanted to be able to do what was needed to win and not have to worry who they pissed off in their run for the power to do so.
This brings to light a few things about games and gaming in the last few years. I have noticed changes both good and bad in the industry and in gamers.
The median age for games is getting older that is a good thing. Games have gotten more complex with greater story and intricate plots. But there is a flip side to this as well.
Because more have grown up with games it is more common for people to raise their children playing games as well. But today's generation, well to put it politely they seem to not understand what it takes to make these games, how involved the science is, how difficult business is. Or that it took 30 years to see the graphics, and plots they so casually throw to the side because they are not into it being difficult when being entertained. They are an entitled generation, with very loud voices given to them by the internet. Gaming forums, feedback. These avenues were hard fought and developed by my generation and in my opinion are abused and misused by this one.
It's like the line from Jurassic Park They are standing on the shoulders of those that came before them and not recognizing the work it took for that to be possible. Or the responsibility it requires to be where they are.
